On Saturday May 2, 2015, many members of the Mt. Lebanon Democratic Committee joined Mt. Lebanon residents and local community organizations in a fundraiser to support Mike Riemer at the Bower Hill Community Church Spaghetti Dinner and talent show.
Mike Riemer is a Mt. Lebanon School Board member and a former member of the Mt. Lebanon Democratic Committee. He was also a police office in Mt. Lebanon and current works with the local Salvation Army as the Director of Emergency Disaster Services. So when Mike was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) the residents of Mt. Lebanon pulled together to support a man who had been giving to the community for years.
While musicians performed diners at and shared stories with friends and neighbors throughout the community. Dozens of people and local businesses donated baskets for auction through a raffle.
In all, more than 500 people attended the fundraiser which generated nearly $12,000 at the event. Those who couldn’t attend gave online through the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT). Altogether, the event raised more than $20,000, which will help to defray the costs related to the kidney surgery and the follow-up care and medication he’ll need post-surgery
Thanks to committee members and Mt. Lebanon residents for making the event such a success!
