Larry Lebowitz is the current President of the Mt. Lebanon School board, a board on which he has served for the past 6 years.
I sat down with Larry recently and got to know him better so I could share some of his work with you in this candidate profile.
Biography
Larry joined the School Board in 2009, and currently serves as the Board President. He has also chaired the Policy Committee and the Capital Campaign Cabinet.
Larry is a partner with the law firm Cohen & Grigsby in Pittsburgh, where, in 1993, he started a division that would become one of the largest in the region with more than 40 active professionals. He has also been an adjunct professor at both the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University.
Larry attended Mt. Lebanon schools; as did all of his children – two of which are alumni, and the youngest is currently in high school. He’s also coached their youth sports teams – baseball, softball, and soccer.
His goal as a board member has been to strike a reasonable balance between two important and competing priorities:
- To do what is necessary to provide the outstanding level of education in Mt. Lebanon that our kids deserve and that our community demands; and
- Recognizing the impact of increased taxes on our residents and making sure to do what we can to minimize that impact
Accomplishments & Acknowledgements
Larry gives back not only through his work with the Mt. Lebanon School Board, but also with other local organizations including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Temple Emanuel of the South Hills , Outreach South, and the United Jewish Federation; spending time as a board member for each.
He also served on the Mt. Lebanon Civil Service Commission for four years before joining the School Board.
