Heather Arnet is a Mt. Lebanon resident and candidate for State Senator in Pennsylvania’s 37th Senate District. She is also endorsed by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, and several members of the State leadership.
For the last twelve years, Heather Arnet has served as the CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation. In that role, she has taken part in the crafting of state and local laws to increase rights and opportunities for working families. Important to her are issues that include paid sick leave, raising the minimum wage, greater protections for domestic violence victims, equal pay mandates, and women’s health care.
She was also a member of the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Education from 2007 to 2009 and currently serves as Board Chair of the Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership and Chair of the Ms. Foundation board.
Arnet earned her B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University in 1997, where her husband, David Shumway, is currently a Professor of English. Together, they live in Mt. Lebanon with their son Travis (age 12) and their standard poodle, Brownie.
Heather has been identified as one of Pittsburgh’s “Top 40 under 40” by Pittsburgh Magazine, as one of the “Top Twelve Noteworthy Business Leaders” by the Pittsburgh PostGazette and received the Diamond Award, for “Outstanding CEO Leadership” by the Pittsburgh Business Times and recognized with a PNC “Woman of Legacy” award. She has been published in the Huffington Post, Daily Beast, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Business Times, and interviewed on NBC’s Today Show, CNN, Huffington Post Live, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC and CBS Nightly News, KDKA, WPXI, WTAE, WYEP, WESA, and NPR.

If given the opportunity to serve as the next State Senator of the 37th District, I will be a legislator who puts families first when making policy decisions. That’s what I have done my whole career. From my first college job working at Mister Rogers Neighborhood, to the last twelve years working for the Women and Girls Foundation, I have been proud to support public education, public health, the rights of workers, and policies that enhance the economic security of working families.
